Emergency Circumstances

It is the Hazard Library Association’s policy to be well prepared in case of an emergency.

  • We maintain a first aid kit in the bathroom under the sink.
  • There are two fire extinguishers in the library. One is on the south wall near the back window. One is on the northeast wall. Exit sign is over the front door. This complies with the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code.
  • IN AN EMERGENCY a call should be placed to 911.

The Library Director/ Library Assistant and/or Board President should be notified as soon as possible. A brief summary detailing the incident should be written.

  • In weather emergency or any other emergency, the volunteer on duty should consult with the Library Director/Library Assistant and /or the Board President before closing. The volunteer should proceed with the normal closing procedures and place a “temporarily closed” sign on the door. If the volunteer is unable to contact one of the above people, she should use her own judgment. Afterwards, the volunteer should make every effort to advise the Library Director/ Library Assistant and/or Board President of the closing.

In the event the library is closed there will be no penalty for late returns. Patrons are advised to call the library when openings/closings are in question.
